Sculptures and Paintings in Wood titled "Heart Pieces" by Rolf Hook

Start Date: 01 Jun 2008
End Date: 10 Jul 2008
Times:

"Heart Pieces", comprises wood sculptures, made of very unique pieces of wood that were collected for a period of over 25 years.  The exhibition was opened by well known local poet and writer, Domhnall Mac Síthigh.  The exhibition will run until the end of June.

The exhibition is by German artist, Rolf Hook who is from Altrip, a little village in the "Rhineland Valley" near Heidelberg and Mannheim.  Rolf has a Masters Degree in Fine Woodworking and was also the recipient of the German "State Award" that was granted to him in his field of work.  It is regarded as the highest award an artist, working in his field of applied arts, can receive in Germany.

Rolf  takes great care in choosing the wood with which he works.  "Wood is very different from all other materials; it can not be taken and used the next minute.  All my pieces I have collected over the last 20 years.  Some occupied a space at my home for even longer, they must rest and dry very slowly, you shift them from one place to another, just like turning a bottle of champagne".
